Lily felt heat washed over her. She had no doubt from Max’s grin that he’d been rewarded by her blush, which had nothing to do with the sun beaming down on them. Sex with Max had been... She had no words. Freeing, liberating, extraordinary, mind-blowing. Maybe she did have words, but they were inadequate. He’d been attentive, caring, tender. Max had seen to her pleasure before he’d considered his own. She’d had no idea what sex could really be like until Max. He’d made sure she felt desired and satisfied again and again.

She would have described herself as a conservative sexual partner until she’d had sex in the shower with Max. In fact, that had been another of Jeff’s complaints about her. Max hadn’t seemed disappointed. She smiled. From the way Max acted, she had satisfied him, completely.

But more than that he’d been there for her when Ivy had been missing. Jeff had been all about himself. His job, his problems and his pleasure. He would have never spent an evening with her if there had been a problem with Ivy. Max was so much more of a man than Jeff had ever been. She had wasted too much time mourning Jeff’s leaving. Instead, she should be glad he wasn’t in her life anymore.

Max had opened an entire new world for her. She looked at him. Even now, he had her body at a low hum. It excited her.

Despite her initial guilt of not going to the hospital, she was enjoying herself. The day couldn’t be more beautiful, and she’d never felt better about life. She was having fun. When was the last time she’d been able to say that?

“Have you spent any time boating?” Max glanced at her, then looked back at the water ahead.

“What?”

“Boats. Do you know anything about them?”

Max had caught her daydreaming. Of him. “Not much, but I love them. I like being out on the water.”

“When we’re out into a less-congested area, how would you like to drive?”

A thump of excitement filled her chest. “Could I?”

Max gave the boat a little more speed. “Sure. Do you know why they call this a cigarette boat?”

Lily pulled a hat out of the bag sitting at her feet and put it on her head. “No. But by the look on your face, you do.”

“I do. The boat design reminded the inventor of a cigarette. Long and sleek. Hold on to your hat. I’m going to give it a more speed.” Max pushed the throttle forward.

They moved out into more open water.

Lily placed a hand on top of her head to prevent the hat from blowing off, then raised her chin, appreciating the wind and warmth of the sun. A thrill went through her as she they skipped over the water, the small waves making a thumping sound against the hull.

Max pulled back on the speed as they approached a wide inlet.

“Is something wrong?” she called to him.

“No.”

“Then, what’re we doing?”

He grinned. “I thought you might like a water tour of the rich and famous.
